Working on a Cruise Ship is a great way to see the world, save money and meet new people from many different countries. There are lots of numbers of Cruise ships out there and every year they build new and big ones. Famous country where the ships are made from
are Germany and Italy.
For the reason is that each Companies noticed that the demand for cruising are getting higher. In addition, Cruise industry is growing fast, thus, this is why they need more manpower to operate each ships. In my own idea, Principal Companies loves to hire Filipinos, you know what I mean, Kabayan.
Let’s talk about first what is a Cruise Ship, Luxury Ship or Cruise Line. Cruise Ships are large passenger ships used mainly for vacationing. They typically embark on round-trip voyages to various ports-of calls, where passengers may go on a tour known as, “ Shore Excursion “. It staffed by thousands of service, hospitality, customer service, and boating professionals. They are required to sign contracts to work internationally for months at a time. Other Cruise Lines offering or having Freestyle and others are having Traditional way.
Difference between Manning Agencies and Principal Company? Well, Manning Agencies or Crew manning agents are simply an employment agency for seafarers. They help ship owners or Principal Companies by providing labour supply of seafarer to perform various deck activities.
Now, there are 2 ways for applying in the Agencies:
1. Walk-in Application
2. Online Application
Most of the Manning Agencies are accepting through walk-in applicants and online, but some are online only. F.Y.I. Kabayan, Agencies are not allowed to collect money from their applicants, beware, it’s a SCAM! They just do Manpower pooling only.
Before you apply through walk-in, you have to be look professional, presentable and smart-looking. Make sure you have updated CV or Resume with updated picture.
Consider these qualifications:
• A minimum of 1 year work experience or more, preferably, 5-Star Hotel or Fine Dining Restaurant for Hotel Department. If you have shipboard experience, they may require 2 years of experience.
• Intermediate to advanced level in English both verbal and writing skills, including the proper use of grammar is required.
And these are the basic requirements you need to have:
• Passport
• Basic Training ( BT ) or formerly known as S.O.L.A.S. ( Safety Of Life At Sea ). It has 5 days training with different kind of modules.
• C.O.P. ( Certificate of Proficiency ) of Basic Training Certificate
• S.I.R.B. ( aka Seaman’s Book )
• Yellow Fever
Hint: You cannot get SIRB unless if you have BT Certificate -as one of the requirements as per MARINA ( Maritime Industry Authority ).
I highly recommend you acquire those things in advance before you apply, so that it’s easy for you and the chance you’ll be processed fast, especially if you’re hired.

There are lots of different Crewing Agencies to choose from for you to apply. However, not all of them offered the job you’re looking for.
Over manning and no vacancy are one of the reasons your application for interview might be delayed because plenty applicants are just pulled in from the succession list.
